Parents Guide to NSW Syllabus by NSW Board of Studies
As the parent of a primary school student you will want to know what your child is learning so you can help them along at home. You and your child's teachers will be the most important influence on your son or daughter's education. This Guide (use link above) is provided to help you follow your child's early learning and to help you talk with teachers about day-to-day classroom activities and your child's progress.
Primary learning includes whole-class, group and individual activities designed to develop an inquiring mind and teach basic learning skills needed for schooling and later life.
Literacy and numeracy are the building blocks of learning and that is why English and mathematics take up half of students' learning time in primary school.
Kindergarten to Year 6 focuses on six key learning areas:
- Science and technology
- Human society and its environment
- Personal development, health and physical education
- Creative arts
